Carles Puyol Saforcada, né le à La Pobla de Segur (Catalogne, Espagne), est un footballeur international espagnol. Il évolue au poste de défenseur central de la fin des années 1990 jusqu'à 2014. Il est reconnu comme un des meilleurs joueurs à son poste des années 2000 et l'un des joueurs les plus fair-play de l'histoire. Il a mis fin à sa carrière en 2014.
Carles Puyol fait ses premiers pas en première division espagnole avec l'équipe première du FC Barcelone, le . En quinze ans de présence au sein du club dont dix comme capitaine, Puyol remporte entre autres cinq Ligas, trois Ligues des champions et deux Coupes du monde des clubs. Il fait notamment partie de l'équipe qui remporte un sextuplé inédit en 2008-2009. Au moment d'arrêter sa carrière en à cause de blessures récurrentes, Puyol est le quatrième joueur ayant disputé le plus de matchs sous le maillot du Barça derrière ses amis Xavi, Iniesta et Lionel Messi.
Puyol fait ses débuts avec l'équipe d'Espagne le , quelques mois après avoir perdu la finale des JO de Sydney. Après plusieurs places d'honneur, il remporte le Championnat d'Europe des Nations 2008 et la Coupe du monde 2010. En 2012, une blessure l'empêche de prendre part au sacre de la Roja à l'Euro 2012. Puyol prend sa retraite internationale en 2013 après avoir atteint les cent sélections durant lesquelles il inscrit trois buts.
En , Carles Puyol devient l'adjoint d'Andoni Zubizarreta à la direction sportive du FC Barcelone. Il tient ce poste jusqu'en , lorsqu'il démissionne après le licenciement de Zubizarreta.
