CIA initial psychological assessment of D Ellsberg, which is released to NY Times on Aug 2, concludes that Ellsberg was motivated by 'what he deemed a higher order of patriotism' in turning over Pentagon papers to press in '71; describes Ellsberg as brilliant and success-oriented man who saw himself 'as having a special mission, and indeed as bearing a special responsibility' regarding Vietnam war; study, prepared in Aug '71, by CIA staff psychiatrist Dr B Malloy, was rejected by 'plumbers' unit that requested it; former CIA dir R Helms, testifying before Sen Watergate com on Aug 2, says that White House had expressed disappointment over Ellsberg study and had demanded 2d effort which was provided; Gen R E Cushman Jr testifies that during his 3 yrs of active duty with CIA he does not recall any other psychological study being made on an Amer; Ellsberg notes that rept, although favorable, did not discuss his motives in terms of war; says he had refused to release study in past because 'I don't believe in invading my privacy'; Ellsberg illus
