LEAD: Richard J. Ferris, chairman of UAL Inc., scheduled a news conference in Manhattan Thursday after the company's annual meeting of stockholders. It would be Mr. Ferris's first such meeting since United Airlines' pilots offered three weeks ago to buy the huge carrier for $4.5 billion. UAL said the carrier was not for sale.

LEAD: The Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation today filed its largest lawsuit ever, against former officers and directors of the Vernon Savings and Loan Association, which was closed last month, The insurance fund said it was seeking to recover several hundred million dollars in damages from the principal owner and six former officers of Vernon for their ''systematic looting and wasting'' of the thrift association's assets.
