Members of NY Mailers Union Local 6 comply with temporary ct order on Aug 20 and return to work at NY Times, ending 1-day work stoppage that prevented pub of Aug 20 issue of paper; Times attys go before NYS Sup Ct Justice J A Brust to obtain ct order enjoining stoppage and directing union to show cause on Aug 23 why preliminary injunction should not be issued; mailers walked off job on Aug 20, charging that Times had breached contract with union by eliminating work assignment of day mail rm clerk and by transferring him from plant at W 43d St to plant at West End Ave; union pres G E McDonald contends that status quo should be preserved under current contract until issue can be arbitrated; Times vp J H Mortimer says paper is within its rights in eliminating work, but is willing to let arbitrator decide whether work elimination is violation; Fed mediators I Gerard and R Kennedy meet on Aug 21 to discuss dispute with Mortimer but rept no solution
